Marjorie Ann McFarland (Miller), age 84, of Madison, MN passed away peacefully on March 29th, 2023, at the Madison Care Center.
Marge was born on January 25th, 1939, in Chanute, KS to parents Omer and Louise (VanPatten) Miller. She would be the third of five children, with older siblings Howard and Norma, and younger brothers Harold and Richard. The family moved several times before settling in Wagner South Dakota where her father opened a Ben Franklin store. She attended Wagner Schools and graduated in 1957. After high school she went on to work for Northwester Bell telephone, and occasionally her dad at the dime store.
In 1961 she was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Gary McFarland, when he returned from college. The two were united in marriage June 10th, 1962, and to this union three boys would be born: Brett, Kevin, and Troy. The family moved to Madison, MN in 1970 where she quickly found a knack for clothing sales and for over 20+ years worked for several local department stores. During those years she really enjoyed her work and met many wonderful people along the way. In 2000, Marge and Gary moved to Alexandria where they continued to enjoy many summers on Lobster Lake and winters in Mesa, AZ before returning home to Madison in 2012.
Marge was an amazing and loving wife of 59 years, a terrific mother that would drop everything to take care of her boys, a home maker that not only worked full-time but also kept everything organized at home, and lastly, a thoughtful, caring grandma that absolutely loved spoiling her grandkids. In life she loved bridge and birthday club with her many friends, adventures with the red hat ladies in Alexandria, and most of all, time spent with her sister Norma back in South Dakota. In her free time, she enjoyed watching murder mysteries, crossword puzzles, trips to the mall, having coffee downtown with the ladies and just relaxing around the house.
She is survived by children Brett (Wendy) of Wellsville, UT; Kevin of Granite Falls, MN; Troy (Michelle) of Madison, MN; Grandchildren Megan (Darrien) Wallin, Ashley, Moxie, and Mason; Siblings Harold Miller of Sioux Falls and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gary; Parents Omer and Louise, Mother and Father In-Law Eugene and Lorna; and Siblings Howard, Norma, and Richie.
Blessed be her memory.
